A key aspect of undergraduate learning is the ability to read or view materials, synthesize the learning, and reflect on how you might take it back to your personal or professional life. The Position Outline Journal (POJ) is designed with prompt questions to lead you to critically think about your course materials and develop a connection to application.
Do the following before you start this POJ:
1. First, take the self-assessment on page 103 of the textbook regarding the Big 5 Personality dimensions.
2. Then, take the assessment on page 110 of the textbook regarding instrumental and end values.
3. Finally, review the following videos to provide additional context and information for this assignment.
Use the Big 5 personality and workplace personality resources (uploaded to files) in your POJ.
Prepare a position outline journal (POJ) following the instructions below.
The POJ is more than a mere answering of the issues presented in the assigned materials. You will also need to consider the broader issues or themes and provide an analysis about the connection to the learning in this course and your personal experiences. The POJ is designed to help you begin to develop the habit of synthesizing the material you are learning to your role as an emerging leader in the business community.
Where appropriate, use citations to support your opinions about the topic. Your textbook, The Leadership Experience, should serve as a primary resource for your responses. At a minimum, there should be at least one other resource used in addition to this week’s textbook readings and all other resources assigned in the instructions for this POJ. Each POJ should be between 500 and 750 words and should answer the following:
Central Issues and Analysis
What are the central issues presented in the assigned materials? How are the issues related to information you have studied in this course? In your opinion, why was this particular set of issues presented for your analysis and reflection?
How it Applies to My Organization
How do the issues posed in the assigned materials relate to a current or past organization where you have been a participant?
The “Aha” Moment
As you study the related materials and think about your responses to the issues in the assigned materials, what is your “aha” moment? What resonated with you in such a way that it has confirmed or changed your view of leadershbciip and its role in organizations?
